Nestled into the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast between Amalfi and Positano, Furore Grand Hotel elevates the relationship between architecture, landscape and the sea through a design by architect Fabrizia Frezza, in which the lighting discreetly enhances the guests’ experience.

In a setting where the landscape is central to this experience, lighting creates elegant, welcoming ambiences long after sunset.

Across nine panoramic terraces and eleven levels overlooking the Mediterranean, it weaves together gardens, walkways, pools, wellness areas and shared spaces into a continuous narrative, defining the hotel’s complex layout while preserving the balance between architecture and landscape.

The lighting design uses a refined, contemporary language based on warm tones (2700K and 3000K), carefully selected optics and finishes that complement the hotel’s material palette. Step lights, recessed fixtures, projectors, wall-mounted fixtures and linear systems work together to meet different functional and perceptual requirements while maintaining visual continuity throughout the property.

Around the swimming pools, the relationship between light and water becomes one of the project’s defining features. The Moby 2.1 and Bright 3.0 underwater recessed fixtures in 316L stainless steel enhance the infinity pool, reinforcing its seamless connection with the horizon.

The rectangular platforms housing the sun loungers in the swimming pools are outlined by integrated linear systems concealed around their perimeters. Their light traces the geometry of the platforms and accentuates their apparent lightness, making them appear to float on the water.

Moby 2.1 underwater recessed fixtures are also used in the indoor wellness pool, where their soft, uniform illumination creates a calm, enveloping atmosphere in harmony with the lighting experience of the outdoor spaces.

Pasito Mini step lights play a key role throughout, integrated into the balustrades that mark out the hotel’s terraced layout, including the poolside areas. The 24Vdc version meets safety requirements for installations near water while maintaining consistent lighting quality and a cohesive aesthetic. Along the balustrade of the main pool, 60° optics produce a soft, controlled beam that draws the eye towards the sea. Around the terraces, 150° × 90° asymmetric optics provide broad, uniform illumination, improving spatial legibility and wayfinding.

On the terrace below the pool, Neva 2.0 linear profiles pick out the stone walls with a grazing light, highlighting their texture and materials. Elsewhere, Bright recessed fixtures guide guests along stairs and pathways using elliptical, narrow and diffuse beam distributions selected to suit each space and level change. For example, custom Bright Mini 1.0 fixtures with diffuse light and half black-serigraphed glass subtly light the steps leading from the pool to the outdoor lounge, ensuring excellent visual comfort and route legibility without glare.

Around the second swimming pool, flush-mounted Goccia 2.6 walk-over recessed fixtures create a sequence of light points that subtly define the relaxation area, reinforcing its peaceful, intimate atmosphere.

The facade is lit by double-beam Kocca wall-mounted fixtures with 70° optics, which wash the surfaces with an even, measured light. Around the guest rooms, the same fitting is reinterpreted with a narrow downward beam and a wide upward beam, positioned between the arches that articulate the building’s domed ceilings to emphasise their architectural rhythm. In the bar pergola, the double-beam version with 10° optics accentuates the columns’ height with tightly controlled light, creating an elegant, intimate setting.

Further east, Brom wall-mounted fixtures light the balcony reveals with narrow 10° beams, producing a precisely controlled effect that emphasises their depth and geometric form.

In the parkland, Ginko 2.0 projectors illuminate shrubs and low-growing planting using optics calibrated to the size of each specimen. The jasper green finish minimises their visual impact during the day, enabling them to blend seamlessly into the surrounding vegetation.

Finally, in the private gardens of the pool suites, Ginko 2.0 projectors with elliptical optics illuminate the lounge areas, and Moby underwater recessed fixtures bring definition to the private pools with carefully controlled lighting, to create an intimate, secluded ambience.
