Above the expanse of roofs and stone buildings that characterise the Apulian village of Rocchetta Sant’Antonio rises the bell tower of the Chiesa Matrice dell’Assunzione della Beata Vergine Maria (church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the locality’s main church). This quadrangular tower ends in a striking octagonal spire entirely covered in coloured majolica tiles.
The redesigned lighting enhances the bell tower’s characteristic features. The intrados of the arches is lit with Lyss 1.0 projectors with satin 20°x180° optics, producing an output with soft contours that emphasises their internal profiles. Next to each arch, small Spot 1.0 projectors with narrow 10° optics pick out the edge of the bell tower’s quadrangular base.
The octagonal spire rests on a drum, also octagonal, decorated with vertical yellow and blue bands, uniformly lit by Trevi 1.1 linear profiles. The coloured bands rise diagonally, covering the triangular sides of the spire until they join at the top of the building, marked by a cross. At the very top of the belfry, Spot 1.0 projectors, in this case with 40° optics, point downwards, to highlight the coloured bands and make the bell tower stand out against the backdrop of Rocchetta Sant’Antonio.
