Varanda is a modern restaurant housed in the renowned Hotel Mundial. It vaunts top-level cuisine that, under the guidance of chef Vitor Sobral, blends local Portuguese dishes with the latest trends in contemporary cuisine.

Interior designer Cristina Santos e Silva arranged the tables around a central island with a high counter where guests can sit and enjoy a drink. The Portuguese light planning studio Light2Life used Esem Mini 1.0 downlights with narrow 14° optics to light the bar top: thanks to their low height of only 25 mm, they could be recessed directly into the glass shelf.

Other Esem Minis are installed in the ceiling along the curved line of the partition of vertical brass-coloured bars: when the light hits them, they spread a soft golden glow in the room, adding to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the Varanda Restaurant.

The striking wine cabinet is full height and contains prestigious wines arranged in five columns. To highlight the cooler and the labels on the bottles, four Cameo 2.6 downlights with 11° narrow optics were recessed into its top.
