On the occasion of maltabiennale.art 2024, from 13 March to 31 May, our fixtures have been chosen to illuminate the thematic pavilion Other Geographies, Other Stories, presented by the OmenaArt Foundation in the interiors of Fort Saint Elmo, Valletta.
The pavilion hosts selected works by five artists, Jagiełło, Dostlieva, Karpowicz, Karkoszka and Falender. Despite diverse generational and artistic backgrounds, they find a convergence of experiences within a shared narrative that “perfectly matches the character of the island – a place that has been a combination of different geographies and histories for thousands of years,” says curator Natalia Bradbury.
Tackling themes such as migration and the consequences of social and political upheavals, the artists raise a fundamental question: can we forge a new world with a different order? “Other Geographies, Other Stories” represents an alternative, female perspective to the established order.
The works are exhibited in the interior spaces of Fort Saint Elmo. Fixed to self-supporting structures, Ginko 3.4 projectors, 3000K, illuminate the sculptures on display with CRI>90 and a manually adjustable zoom lens with an optical range of 8–38°. Two Neva 1.1 linear profiles with 11° optics complete the bottom-up illumination of another of the art installations on show in the rooms of Fort Saint Elmo.
